2018: Building Inclusive and Democratic School Culture

In a dynamic society in which we live, teachers need to develop work strategies that can ensure and promote equity in the educational act. The aim of the project is to increase the quality of counseling services with an emphasis on inclusion and democratic education by training 9 CJRAE experts in Iceland and the main objective is to innovative practices in education and the organization of training sessions for teachers and workshops for parents and students with an emphasis on inclusion and children’s rights can contribute to building a democratic and inclusive school.
Target group: 9 school counselors participating in the training programs and Iceland; at local level: 57 school counselors, 100 teachers, 450 students and their families. The main activities of the project consisted in participating in courses: to learn about approaches to reach and increase retention of disadvantaged learners.
The information and working strategies with the students learned during the training courses have been disseminated for 328 teachers, 215 principals, 20 school inspectors, 15 students, representatives of local media, and on the institution’s website there are materials posted in the section for this project. The training course support for teachers to be accredited by the MEC has been completed. Workshops with students and parents in schools will resume after the resumption of courses in pre-university education, online or direct meetings.
This project contributes to the promotion of inclusion and democratic education in schools, offering methods and techniques of integration, alternatives taken in the courses and which will be transmitted through training activities for teachers in pre-university education.
